VESFELT Bitumen Saturated Organic Fibre Felt Dampcourse and Roofing Membrane

VESFELT is an organic fibre felt completely saturated in hot bitumen, coated with selected bitumen layers, and finished with a fine powder dusting to prevent sticking when rolled.

 This product is designed for versatile waterproofing and dampcourse applications in building construction.

The membrane is ideal for waterproofing flat roofs, roof tiles, corrugated fibre cement, and corrugated iron sheet roofing. It is also suitable as a dampcourse for brickwork, a separation strip for timber, brickwork and concrete, and can be used underneath galvanised water tanks to prevent condensation.

VESFELT offers highly economical waterproofing performance. It is resistant to mild acids, alkalis, and moisture, and is easy to lay. The membrane requires a structurally sound surface free from grease, oil, wax, and loose material that could affect adhesion. Proper drainage must be ensured to avoid water ponding.

For application on conventional planked or sheet timber roofs, the first underlayer of felt is nailed to the decking parallel to the drainage fall with 20mm large head galvanised clout nails at 150mm centers. Subsequent sheets overlap by approximately 50mm and are sealed using Bitumen Paint, which also bonds the layers together. The membrane is laid carefully to avoid trapping air pockets. The top layer (cap sheet) is fixed similarly. Roof edges are finished with felt strips called “welted aprons.” A finishing coat of Silver Aluminium based paint is applied for UV protection.

Rolls should be stored upright to maintain quality. Tools can be cleaned with turpentine after use.
